As the opioid epidemic grows, the United States remains committed to enforcing the Controlled Substances Act through civil, criminal, and administrative action. This presentation will provide participants with a detailed understanding of CSA enforcement from the viewpoint of Federal law enforcement agencies, using specific case studies. Key topics will include identifying red flags, exercising professional judgment, applying CSA regulations to pharmacist and pharmacists, recently settled cases, and enforcement actions, including parallel proceedings and relevant caselaw. The presentation will also cover the legal obligations of pharmacists as viewed by law enforcement, illustrated through concrete examples. Finally, the intersection of the CSA with the False Claims Act and other Federal laws will be explored.
