Bill Fassett is professor emeritus of pharmacy law and ethics in the Department of Pharmacotherapy, Washington State University, Spokane, WA. He joined WSU 1999 as dean and served for six years before returning to full-time faculty work. He retired in 2014. Dr. Fassett was professor and chair of pharmacy practice at Drake University in Des Moines, IA (1994-99), and was formerly associate professor of pharmacy at the University of Washington. His principal teaching activity was in pharmacy law and ethics and in quality assurance and patient safety. Dr. Fassett also held appointments as adjunct professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy and the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. He also served as interim dean and professor at the Pacific University School of Pharmacy. He holds a BS Pharm degree from the University of Washington, an MBA from the University of Puget Sound, and a PhD from the University of Washington.
He is past president of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science, APhA, and a former APhA Trustee. He served as a Director of the American Society for Pharmacy Law from 2002 to 2004, and as ASPL Treasurer from 2004 to 2012. Other memberships include the Washington State Pharmacy Association, Phi Delta Kappa, Rho Chi Society, and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.
Dr. Fassett is former editor of ASPL’s two official publications: Rx Ipsa Loquitur and Pharma-Law e-News. He is former chair of the editorial panel on Law, Medicine and Ethics of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, and served on the editorial boards of JAPhA and American Health & Drug Benefits.
Bill was the 2012 recipient of the ASPL Joseph L. Fink Founder’s Award.
