Dr. Rachel Barenie is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Continuing Professional Development at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy. She is both a licensed pharmacist and attorney. Her responsibilities include delivering every aspect of pharmacy law education at the college from the students’ first days in the program to their last as they prepare for licensure. Dr. Barenie was awarded the Student Government Association Executive Council Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022. Prior to joining faculty at UT in July 2020, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pharmaceutical policy at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in the Program on Regulation, Therapeutics, and Law ("PORTAL"). Her research centered on federal pharmacy laws that affect drug pricing, with a special focus on legal issues at the intersection of drug pricing and substance use disorders. Dr. Barenie earned her PharmD from Butler University and her JD and MPH from the University of Memphis.
