Pharmacies filling telehealth prescriptions operate at the intersection of multiple regulators and accrediting bodies. New platforms employ a variety of business models that allow patients access to telehealth services and can create risk for the prescribers and pharmacists alike. This session will help pharmacy professionals consider and gain insight regarding issues that they encounter in this area, such as: What is their responsibility (and how) to identify telehealth prescriptions that may not be valid? What are some relevant policy considerations? Does the Medical Board or the Pharmacy Board govern the telehealth visit? Can pharmacies or prescribers rely on platforms for compliance support as they provide services via telehealth - such as regarding licensure, fraud waste and abuse, valid patient-prescriber relationships, and data privacy? We will explore these topics and more through the lens of enforcement actions, legal requirements, licensure, and accreditation issues affecting pharmacies and providers.
